Can I place my refrigerator in a corner?
October 2nd, 2007 § 9 Comments
Any refrigerator placed in a corner is going to occupy valuable real estate in a kitchen. Unless you plan on purchasing a built in integrated model, most free standing refrigerators are simply too bulky to do a corner justice.
Scandinavian Appliances AS makes an actual “corner” refrigerator. For more information view Norcool.com.
Take a look. How cool is this!

That fridge corne idea looks nice.
Yes, a custom fit is very nice.
Are there any corner refrigerators that are smaller (i.e. around the same volume as a regular refrigerator?
Good question. Do you mean to select a built in refrigerator? Are you looking for a smaller refrigerator with the same size volume as a regular refrigerator? Counter depth refrigerator will not offer the same volume compared to the same size free standing. You would have to get a taller built in style and even so, the cubic storage may not be the same. Corner placement is always tricky. Common mistakes are putting French-Door or Side-by-Sides in a corner and not leaving any room for the door to swing past 90. Best is to place a freezer on the top or freezer on the bottom style so you can access the most amount of shelve space. If your going for a built-in then bottom freezer is your only option. Just remember to put the hinge next to the wall side or you’ll be dancing the “around the door” jig .
Oh and a corner ( like a 45 ) it has to be small ( 27″ or less ) If you put a normal 36″ built in the you would take up over 54″ of space!. A 27″ frig is like 15 cubic feet and a 36″ is more like 20. Hope this helps
Is the corner fridge available in North America?
Leave it to the Scandinavians, always ahead of the curve, eh-hem, or should I say corner. I have put out new inquiries to see if it is available in the states.
The U.S. does not currently have a distributor for Norcool. the corner refrigerator mentioned in this post. Thermador now makes the Freedom series, a narrow refrigerator unit that cab be angled into the corner with a carefully planned design and angled wall. It still leaves the question of where to place a freezer, maybe next to the pantry or place the freezer in the corner and the Thermador Freedom refer. next to a pantry or tall oven.
